19 Jun The Ideal Family Vacation
It’s summer, and you and the kids are itching to take that family vacation. Charleston is an easy fly or drive, meaning you will arrive before you have to endure the dreaded “are we there yet?”
Our kid-friendly city and vacation rentals provide the perfect location for making those special memories your children will tell their children in years to come.
Breakfast at The Charleston Chestnut Mansion
When you arrive, load up on all your groceries at Harris Teeter – a supermarket just two blocks away. That way you can relax and enjoy cooking in a chef’s-inspired kitchen your first morning in Charleston.
Morning at The South Carolina Aquarium
Meet more than 5,000 aquatic animals living at The Aquarium and learn how to protect them. The newest addition, The Zucker Family Sea Turtle Recovery Center, lets you come face-to-face with sick and injured sea turtles and follow their journey from rehab to release. Be adventurous at the two touch tanks, where you can pet stingrays, sharks, horseshoe crabs, sea stars, and urchins, and enjoy daily dive shows and animal encounters.
Lunch at East Bay Deli
After the aquarium, take a 5-minute walk to Easy Bay Deli to grab a quick lunch from their wide selection of sandwiches, soups, and salads.
Water Taxi to the USS Yorktown
Head back toward the aquarium to hitch a ride on the Charleston Water Taxi over to Patriots Point. Walk in the steps of heroes aboard the USS Yorktown, USS Laffey Destroyer, and USS Clamagore Submarine, and tour aircraft, the Vietnam Experience, and Medal of Honor Museum.
Dinner at Charleston Harbor Fish House
After seeing everything from sea turtles to WWII aircraft carriers, there’s one more thing you’ll want to see… the “best water view dining” according to Charleston Living Magazine. The Charleston Harbor Fish House is located at Patriots Point and features fresh, local seafood (so fresh the menu changes daily based on what the captains fishing the waters bring in). After dinner, you can take the water taxi or hop in an Uber or Lyft back to The Charleston Chestnut Mansion.
Rise ‘n shine and head over the Isle of Palms for a day at the beach!
Breakfast at Sea Biscuit Café
Start your day with a homestyle breakfast in this little cozy, nautical-inspired café.

Morning at Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry
A two-minute walk from Callie’s is the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry where children and parents alike spark their imaginations and explore hands-on exhibits certain to stimulate your curiosity.
Lunch at Monza
Just another two-minute walk lands you at Monza Pizza known for its Neapolitan-style pizza. Yum!
Dessert at Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream

Cruise the Fort Sumter Tour
Hop in a car and head back toward the Aquarium to pick up a boat tour to Fort Sumter, where the Civil War began. Enjoy the 30-minute narrated boat tour then walking around the grounds and through the fort for about an hour before heading back to the mainland.
Dinner at Fleet Landing
Savor your last meal and waterfront views at Fleet Landing. This casual family-friendly restaurant is located just a couple blocks from The Charleston Chestnut Mansion behind the United States Customs House. Take a stroll after dinner and enjoy your final night in our famed city before heading back to the real world tomorrow.
